It feels like forever ago that I decided that I wanted to be a business woman. When I got really serious about the idea, roughly two years ago, one of the first things I did (with my mum) was create a brand name.
I wanted a name that meant something to me and my family, but a name that would also resonate with women everywhere. We toyed with old street names, house numbers, family names etc. However, it was Violet and Emily Limited that we eventually settled with.
I come from the most normal family you can think of, maybe normal isn’t the right word, we’re all crazy. But, we’re ordinary. We’re a working class family, my mum is an A&E nurse, my dad is a self employed builder and my younger sister is a psychology student. Our parents are two of the hardest working people I know. Although, it does mean that we can go days without seeing each other, through shift work and hectic lifestyles, we’re like ships in the night.
During our childhood, despite not getting to spend as much time with our parents as we would have liked, we had the best baby sitters any girls could wish for! We spent the majority of our time with our grandparents. They grew to be our best friends, they know my sister and I better than anyone, and it’s meant we’ve grown up with another set of parents.
Therefore to show appreciation towards them and the impact they have had on my life, Violet and Emily are my Grandad and Grans mothers names respectively. The real life Violet and Emily were very different from each other, both with their own distinct personas. However, from the stories I have been told they were both incredibly strong women…
Violet was a head strong, goal orientated woman. Her fiery demeanour was admired by all around her. She was breath taking and resilient. Her composed lifestyle and fierce disposition was idolised. When she talked, people listened.
Emily was a softer and more gentle lady, whose aim was to please. Her attentive and kind hearted nature brought a smile to countless faces. Her loving and graceful heart filled family and friends with cheer. She was warm and inviting, whose charisma and charm shone brighter than the sun.
We believe, at Violet and Emily Limited, that these two personas live on in every single one of us.
None of the adjectives used to describe Violet and Emily are related to how they look on the outside, they are all admirable internal traits. As Emma Watson once said “Feeling beautiful has nothing to do with what you look like. I promise.” The feeling of self worth and the perception of beauty is entirely related to your personal identity. A lot like how underwear makes you feel on the inside. The right lingerie has the power to make you feel unstoppable and ensure you resonate the woman that you desire to be.
Violet and Emily Limited now appears to be the perfect name for this up and coming intimate apparel brand. The personalities and traits of Violet and Emily live on in all of us; mind strong, thoughtful, ambitious, caring and every day women who are able to change the world.
